3D Modeler / Checker
Description
We are seeking an experienced and driven 3D Modeler/Checker to join our growing Steel team. The 3D Modeler/Checker is mainly responsible for reviewing all drawings from internal and external detailers before they are released to the Shop and/or Field. A successful candidate shall be detailed oriented, have a strong background in steel fabrication and erection, and have good interpersonal communication skills.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supervise and provide leadership, management oversight, and technical assistance to the Structural Steel Detailers
- Inspect drawings for accuracy, completeness, conformance drafting practices for company standards
- Perform detailed dimensional, bill material checks, and basic and complex layouts
- Inspect for interferences and constructability
- Provide detailing solutions to address various field fixes as required throughout the fabrication and installations of steel employees
- Assist the steel team with drawing support as required to complete the drawing approval and the fabrication/erection process
- Conduct all details and e-plans against the structural process
- Responsible for daily monitoring all RFI’s and addendums
- Maintain records of changes for purposes of submitting change orders
- Develop RFI’s as required
- Assist with shop and field related questions as necessary
REQUIREMENTS
- Eight years minimum experience in structural steel detailing and quality checking
- Knowledge of steel fabrication, and/or steel erection, and miscellaneous steel is strongly preferred
- Knowledge in drafting and checking of structural steel framed buildings, or industrial facilities, such as mining; heavy plate work, hydroelectric, gas plants, chemical plants, conveyors, and bulk material handling facilities
- Five or more years of experience in detailing with AutoCAD, Tekla, or other similar detailing programs is preferred
- Knowledge and ability to navigate Tekla, AutoCAD and SDS is preferred
- Ability to understand the design, build, and fabrication process
- Knowledge of AISC, AWS, ASME, AWWA, API codes and other building codes is required
- Ability to understand and implement requirements of AISC Standard practices and OSHA guidelines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to understand and apply varying levels of mathematics relevant to the position (geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
